Box Score BELMONT, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team received a balanced team effort as four players reached double digits to close out the regular season with a 74-70 Pacific West Conference victory at Notre Dame de Namur.
Senior guard
Noelle Roldan came off the bench to lead the Penguins (9-17/9-11 PacWest) with 13 points on 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) shooting with three three-pointers.
Sarah Nelson went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and finished with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Salonika Quewon-Owens also scored a dozen and
Jasmine Cox added 10 points on 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) shooting.
Amy Woo went 9-of-11 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from deep, to come off the bench and lead the Argonauts (5-21/4-16 PacWest) with a game-high 24 points.
The Penguins held as much as a six-point lead over the Argonauts in the first half. However, the lead changed hands a dozen times in the first 20 minutes before a Quewon-Owens sent the two teams into the break tied at 34-34.
Dominican scored on its opening possession to begin the second half and finally took the lead at the 10-minute mark on a Roldan jumper.
Melissa Boscarino followed with a jumper. The Penguins' lead soon grew to nine and five free throws from Nelson,
Carly Holboke, and Quewon-Owens fended off the late Argos threat.
While the final result was closer than Dominican Head Coach Brianna Chambers would have liked, the fact remains that the Penguins are headed to the PacWest Championships next week, March 6-8 in San Diego. The top six eligible teams advance to the tournament with the winner receiving the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA West Regional.
The victory also ended a two-game skid for the Penguins, who enter having won seven of their last 10 games.
With UH Hilo falling to HPU, Dominican secured the No. 5 seed in the PacWest Championships. The Penguins are set to face No. 4 Dixie State at 7:45 p.m. in Thursday's opening round. For up-to-date information on the PacWest Championships, visit
