Women's basketball falls to first-place ART U on Senior Night

Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team held tough but fell 69-59 to Academy of Art University on Monday night in Pacific West Conference play.

It was the eleventh consecutive victory for the first-place Urban Knights (21-6/18-1 PacWest), who used a 17-3 run to close out the first half and establish a 35-24 lead at intermission. The Penguins (8-17/8-11 PacWest) pulled to within five in the second half but could never quite manage a run of their own.

Dominican was led by Lauren Hyatt's career-high 20 points. She went 10-of-17 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds.

It was the final home game for three Dominican seniors — Jasmine Cox scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds, Salonika Quewon-Owens scored nine points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, and Noelle Roldan finished with four points.

Freshman Carly Holboke added 10 points with a pair of three-pointers.

The Penguins actually shot better than the Urban Knights (31.6 percent, 25-of-79), going 24-of-63 (38.1 percent) from the field, though they struggled at the free throw line (8-of-19, 42.1 percent). ART U went 16-of-21 (76.2 percent) from the line.

Krystal Forthan scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Urban Knights.

Dominican head to Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday, March 1 before heading to the PacWest Championships March 6-8 in San Diego. Tipoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Belmont, Calif.
