Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with an 86-65 Pacific West Conference loss to visiting Dixie State University on Thursday.
Dominican (8-16/8-10 PacWest) had to settle for the season split. The Penguins entered the game shooting 35.2 percent as a team but shot just 33.8 percent (24-of-71) against the Red Storm (13-11/11-7 PacWest). The Penguins trailed from the opening possession before taking a brief four-point lead after layups from
Jasmine Cox and
Lauren Hyatt. They never found a groove after that and Dixie State led 35-24 by halftime.
Salonika Quewon-Owens led Dominican with 17 points and Cox added 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Cox grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Danielle Yamauchi scored eight points in 34 minutes before departing with an ankle injury.
Carly Holboke went her fifth consecutive game with a three-pointer and finished the night with seven points.
Dixie State was led by Kaylah Miller's 22 points, 17 of which came in the second half. She had five three-pointers, which was more than Dominican's four all game. Three members of the Red Storm reached double digits. Haileigh Emerine had 11 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.
It was also Ron Powell Tribute Night, in honor of the former Dominican player and coach who passed away at the early age of 43. Dominican raised over $3,600 — including $750 of personally-matched funds by President Mary Marcy. To learn more about Ron Powell and to help support the Powell-Porrata family with a donation, visit
