Melissa Boscarino scored a career-high 15 points but the Dominican University of California women's basketball team fell 88-53 against California Baptist on Thursday night in the Conlan Center.
CBU, which received votes in the latest USA TODAY Sports Division II Top 25 women's basketball poll, led wire-to-wire and opened on a 7-0 lead before heading into halftime with a 46-30 lead.
The Penguins were limited to 38.1 percent shooting and were just 2-of-15 from behind the arc. The Penguins also lost the rebounding battle, 45-33.
Boscarino's six made shots were also a career-high. She made all three of her free throws, which were also the only three for Dominican.
Allyssa Weatherd added 12 points and
Jade Castro scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Danielle Yamauchi pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
Cassidy Mihalko led all players with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting for the Lancers. Marsha Burnside added 17 points and Courtney Nelson tallied 13 points.
Dominican heads into the break with a 5-5 mark and 2-2 PacWest record. The Penguins resume play next year, Saturday, Jan. 3, in San Francisco against Academy of Art (7-3/2-0 PacWest).
