OAKLAND, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team fell 2-0 in its season finale against Holy Names at T-Bird Stadium.
The Penguins were unable to slow the PacWest's leading goal scorer, Jaime Phillips. He netted both of the Hawks' goals on six shots. His first goal came in the 27th minute off a pass from Yohannes Harish from the left side into the box that Phillips finished into the left side of the net. HNU picked up an insurance goal in the 54th minute on a penalty kick in the 54th minute after a Dominican foul.
Dominican had seven shots, with four on goal. Three of them came in the final minutes as the Penguins looked to score quickly.
Bryan Juarez fired off a shot in the 87th minute and
Mark Caliguire had two shots, which within seconds of each other in the final minute. His header was saved by Michael Amjadi, as was Caliguire's shot off the ensuing corner kick.
Senior
Vini Enriquez had Dominican's lone shot on goal in the first half. That came in the 40th minute but was saved as well. Goalkeeper
Erik Anderson made six saves in his final collegiate match.
The Penguins finish the 2014 season at 2-14-2 overall and 2-9-1 in PacWest play. Head Coach
Phil Billeci-Gard's squad was rarely at full health and often was without several players, including many of his seniors, who only played in seven matches together and collectively made just 81 of a possible 126 appearances.
