Volleyball falls to Chaminade in final game of road trip

HONOLULU, Hawaii — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team was unable to salvage the final match of its three-match trip to Hawai'i and fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23) to Chaminade on Sunday night in Pacific West Conference action.

The Penguins' play got better as the night progressed but they dug themselves an early hole that they would never climb out of. Dominican posted a negative -.038 hitting percentage in set one
and committed 10 errors. The Silverswords' momentum spilled over into set two, where the host team tallied the set's first four points. The Penguins went on a 5-0 run but they still trailed 18-15 and were unable to tie the set. Dominican trailed most of set three also but eventually tied things at 16-16. However, a 21-17 Penguins lead slipped away. The Silverswords outscored the Penguins 8-2 with those two Dominican points coming off of Silverswords errrors.

Freshman Aimee Steinwand led the Penguins with 11 kills. Amanda Lee led all players with 15 digs and Susanna Pilkerton had nine. Samantha Rains had three block assists.

Cassie Rushlow led the Silverswords with 16 kills and Suncica Bakic added 10.

Dominican will have a few days off after returning to the mainland. The Penguins will head to Oakland to face Bay Area rival Holy Names on Saturday, Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m. PacWest match.
