Men’s soccer falls to Point Loma in PacWest opener

Patrick Rabbitt made six saves but the Penguins fell 3-0 in their PacWest opener.
Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team dropped its Pacific West Conference opener on Thursday, a 3-0 loss to Point Loma Nazarene University on Kennelly Field at the John F. Allen Athletics Complex.

The game was a contrast to the 2-1 victory over Point Loma that Dominican ended the 2012 campaign with. In that game, the Penguins escaped with the win despite being outshot 9-5.

The Penguins (1-3-1/0-1-0) had five shots again on Thursday but a Point Loma (3-2-0/1-0-0) consistent attack totaled 16 shots, nine on goal. Daniel ten Bosch connected with Nico Tagaloa on a long-range shot to the lower farside corner to put the Sea Lions up in just the third minute of the game. Ten minutes later, a Tyler Allen cross found Nathan Miramontes, who headed the ball in to give Point Loma a 2-0 lead at intermission.

In the 65th minute, ten Bosch scored a goal of his own from Ricardo Martinez's cross on a diving header to the lower corner.

Dominican's best scoring opportunity came in the opening minute of the second half on freshman Robert Peardon's shot, which was stopped by Carter Phillips.

Keeper Patrick Rabbitt stopped the other six shots that came his way.

The Penguins will look to bounce back on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they host Dixie State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. with live coverage at dominicanathletics.com/live.
