Box Score 2 AZUSA, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's softball team's offense fell silent for two more games on Monday admist a grueling roadtrip that will see the Lady Penguins travel out of state and up and down California. Dominican was no-hit 10-0 in six innings, then fell 4-0 in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at Azusa Pacific University.
Dominican (4-16/0-8) freshman pitcher Ashly Moriarity (1-8) allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits. She walked three and struck out four. Junior
Dominique Perry, making her second start of the season at third base, prevented the perfecto when she drew a walk in the fifth. APU (14-8/6-4) senior Rita Kim struck out eight for the no-hitter.
Freshman
Tori Johnson led off game two with a single to left but was later out on a fielder's choice. APU capitalized on an error and touched junior pitcher
Karly Harris (4-7) with a pair of runs (one earned) in the bottom of the first, then added a single run in the fourth and another unearned run in the fifth inning.
Dominican scattered seven more hits in the game for a total of eight hits, which matched the Cougars, but could never take advantage. Dominican left a pair of runners on in the second, then left a pair stranded in the fourth. The Lady Penguins' best chance came in the fifth inning. Perry walked with two outs to load the bases but reliever Narissa Garcia induced a popup to leave the bases loaded. Dominican runners reached in the sixth and seventh also but was unable to bring them home.
The Lady Penguins, who have been on the road since Feb. 10 and will not play another home game until March 29, now travel north to Humbold State. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13.
