Box Score 2 SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's softball team dropped both games of its rematch vs. Pacific West Conference foe Dixie State College, 3-1 and 7-0, on Tuesday at McInnis Park.
The Lady Penguins (31-10/21-5) put up another close effort to the second place Red Storm (3-40/0-25). After allowing the game's first three batters to reach base, one of which came home on an error,
Karly Harris settled down and recorded three straight outs to keep the damage to 1-0. Despite not recording a hit, Dominican tied things in the third when
Jill Rizo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, DSC pitcher Michelle Duncan got a strikeout to end the inning and leave the bases loaded. Dixie State got the lead right back in the fifth when Jaelle Judkins doubled, followed by a Kylee Bufton triple that plated Judkins. Bufton trotted home on an illegal pitch. Dominican threatened in the bottom of the seventh but
Kayleigh Klingberg was thrown out at the plate and
Kellie Hislop was stranded.
In game two, Dixie State struck for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the second. Rizo and
Dominique Perry each had hits in the fourth inning but were stranded in scoring position. The Lady Penguins stranded a baserunner in each of the next three innings after that. The Red Storm added one more in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
"We played well again and made some big pitches and some big plays," said Head Coach
Roni Sparrey. "We had one tough inning in the second game and we'll have to bounce back for Cal Baptist, another good team."
The Lady Penguins face the Lancers on Monday, April 23 at 12:00 p.m. in a single game at McInnis Park. That is part of a makeup of a doubelheader that was rained out earlier in the season.
