Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif. — Sophomore
Kayleigh Klingberg went 3-for-3 with a first-pitch leadoff home run and followed it up with a 2-for-3 performance in game two but it wasn't enough as the Dominican University of California women's softball team dropped both games of its Pacific West Conference doubleheader to Chaminade University on Wednesday. Dominican fell 10-2 (6) in game one and 11-3 (5) in game two. The games were played at Pedretti Park in Turlock and were the result of rescheduling due to rain outs earlier in the month in Hawai'i.
Unfortunately for the Lady Penguins (2-23/0-12), the Silver Swords (8-16/7-11) struck for seven unanswered runs — four in the first and three more in the second — before Dominican scored again in the third when
Jill Rizo singled through the right side to bring home Klingberg. Chaminade added a pair in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the bottom of the sixth. Dominican recorded six hits in the game but that was overshadowed by seven errors.
In game two, Dominican again took an early lead, going ahead 3-1 in the second.
Shawna Robb drove home
Dominique Perry on a single through the left side. Klingberg hit an opposite field single to load the bases and senior
Kellie Hislop earned an RBI as the result of a hit by pitch. Freshman
Leslie Mesa capped the rally with a single through the left side to plate Robb. The lead wouldn't hold though, as the Silver Swords scored 10 unanswered runs over the final three innings.
On Thursday, Dominican will play another makeup doubleheader against Hawai'i Pacific University. First pitch at Pedretti park is slated for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
