Box Score FRESNO, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-22) in straight sets to No. 13-ranked Fresno Pacfic University on Friday night in Pacific West Conference play.

It was the 17th straight win for the first-place Sunbirds (18-1/10-0) while Dominican (6-14/4-8) was thwarted in its attempt to win back-to-back matches since winning four straight matches Sept. 13–25.

Dominican fell behind early, 9-3, but pulled within three, 11-8, before the Sunbirds pulled away with 6-1 and 5-1 runs for the set, 25-15. The Lady Penguins earned the first point in set two on a Kelsey Larder service ace but FPU recorded the next four points. Dominican never quite recovered and gave way to FPU 25-15 again. The Lady Penguins played tougher with their backs against the wall in set three and led early on. With the match tied 14-14, FPU rattled off six straight points to go ahead 20-14. The Lady Penguins rallied with a 7-2 run of their own on a kill by Skyler Moon and a pair from Jessica Jones to make it 24-22 before a set error gave FPU the match.

Juniors Jones and Hannah Stocking-Siagrkis had five kills apiece but Dominican was held to .031 hitting, including a negative hitting percentage in set one. Senior Sarah Bain had eight assists and freshman Rebecca Schira got a chance to set and had seven assists.

Rupia Inck led FPU with 12 kills and Emily Carroll had 30 assists for the Sunbirds.

Dominican returns home for its final home match of the season on Sunday, Oct. 28. The Lady Penguins face Hawai'i Pacific University at 7:00 p.m. with live coverage available at www.dominicanathletics.com/live. Seniors Bain, Katy Batchelder, Moon, and Sand will be honored in a pregame ceremony as they play their final match at home. Dominican then finishes the 2012 campaign with four road games throughout California.
