ST. GEORGE, UTAH — The Dominican University of California softball team dropped its Pacific West Conference doubleheader on the road at Dixie State on Wednesday at Karl Brooks Field. The Lady Penguins fell 12-1 in five innings and 9-1 in six innings.

The Lady Penguins (1-28/0-12) collected seven hits in the first game but junior pitcher Jessi Saaty was the only Dominican player to cross home. Senior third baseman Robyn Ridpath drove her in with a double to right in the fourth inning.

In game two, after spotting the Red Storm (17-8/8-2) a 1-0 lead in the first, Dominican took advantage of an error in the infield that allowed Ridpath to score and tie the game. Dixie State quickly took the lead back with two runs in the third and again in the fourth before adding a single run in the fifth. Dixie State closed it out with three more runs in the sixth.

Saaty pitched both games but was charged with the losses in each.

On the day, freshman center fielder Crystal Albert went 3-for-6 with a triple. Ridpath went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Saaty was 1-for-4 with a run and a walk.

The Lady Penguins face Dixie State in another doubleheader again on Thursday.
