SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — After dropping the first game of Saturday's tripleheader 7-3, the Dominican University of California women's softball team earned its first Pacific West Conference victory with a 3-2 win over Notre Dame de Namur University. The Lady Penguins dropped the rubber game 6-0.

NDNU (19-25/9-11) posted a crooked number in the fourth inning of game one and that was all the Argos would need. Dominican (2-36/1-20) shaved a run off of the five-run lead in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman Kayleigh Klingberg opened the inning with a triple to right center and junior Kellie Hislop brought her home two batters later with a well laid sacrifice bunt. NDNU added a pair of runs in the sixth but Dominican countered with a pair of their own runs. The Lady Penguins tallied five hits in the inning but senior Leighia Fleming collided with shortstop Alissa Castro and was called for interference, leaving the bases loaded.

Batting as the visiting team in game two, Dominican struck first. Klingberg collected a single and advanced to second on a single up the middle by freshman Crystal Albert. Fellow freshman Rachel Santiago singled home both runners to give the Lady Penguins the 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Argos shaved the lead to a run in the bottom of the second. In the top of the fifth, Dominican capitalized on NDNU miscues. Hislop reached on an error at second base, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Freshman catcher Dominique Perry lined a shot up the middle to bring Hislop around and add an insurance run. It turned out the Lady Penguins would need it when NDNU threatened in the bottom of the seventh. Robyn Araujo scored to cut the lead to 3-2. Santiago made a heads up play on a chopper to short and threw home to Perry, who applied the tag for the second out. Junior pitcher Jessi Saaty then induced a popup to short to clinch her second victory of the season, as well as the complete game.

Game three went by quickly with five scoreless innings despite nine baserunners reaching safely between the two teams. NDNU struck for six runs in the sixth inning and that was that. Dominican stranded a runner in the bottom of the inning and again in the seventh inning.

Albert finished the day 4-for-10 with a run and an RBI. Perry went 3-for-9 with the game-winning RBI in game two. Klingberg finished her day at the plate 2-for-6 with a pair of runs. Santiago had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs with a run scored. Hislop had two hits with a walk, a run, and a RBI. Sophomore Molly Howard also scored a run.

Dominican will host Senior Day on Saturday, April 23 when Academy of Art University visits McInnis Park. Seniors Leighia Fleming and Robyn Ridpath will be honored in a pregame ceremony for their contributions to Dominican softball. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
