PHOENIX, Ariz. — Junior first baseman
Kellie Hislop homered in Sunday's Pacific West Conference doubleheader but the Lady Penguins dropped both games, 10-3 and 25-9 in five innings, to Grand Canyon University at Stapleton-Pierson Stadium.
Grand Canyon (17-18,9-7) built an early game one lead when Montana Lucas hit the first of her three homers on the day to give the 'Lopes a 3-0 lead. They added another run in the second inning. Hisop led off the top of the fourth to put Dominican (1-34,0-18) on the scoreboard. Senior
Robyn Ridpath started a sixth inning rally with a leadoff single and scored on an error at third base. A groundout back to the pitcher by sophomore
Molly Howard allowed junior
Shawna Robb to cross home and pull the Lady Penguins within 4-3. However, GCU pulled away in the bottom of hte sixth with six runs.
Playing as the home team in game two, the Lady Penguins took an early lead after they struck for six runs in the bottom of the first inning. GCU wasn't phased and roared back with an even bigger crooked inning and put 10 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second. The 'Lopes added three runs in the third and four more in the fourth inning. Dominican pieced together a three-run fourth inning. The 'Lopes had another big inning in the fith inning and pushed the lead to the final of 25-9.
The nine runs were the most scored by Dominican in a single game this season. The 25 runs allowed were also the most given up. Fourteen of GCU's runs on the day were unearned.
Hislop finished the day 3-for-6 with the home run, a walk, three runs, and two RBIs. Ridpath was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Junior

Rachel Santiago went 2-for-6 with two RBIs. Freshman catcher
Dominique Perry went 1-for-5 with a walk and a run scored. Robb added a run scored.
Dominican returns home to face PacWest foe Notre Dame de Namur University on Saturday, April 16. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. at McInnis Park.
