SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's softball team plated a pair of runs against Grand Canyon University in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader on Saturday but the Lady Penguins fell 10-1 and 8-1 in the two games at McInnis Park.

Grand Canyon (40-11/21-9) led off the first game by plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Molly Howard singled to left field in the bottom half of the inning but Dominican (2-30/2-26) wasn't able to push her across. After retiring three straight in the second inning, the Lady Penguins allowed six runs in Grand Canyon's half of the third inning. Howard had the next hit for the lady Penguins, coming in the bottom of the third, a single to center field but was again stranded. Dominican's run came in the fourth when Jill Rizo reached on an error, was moved over by Alisha McKnight's sacrifice bunt, reached third on Shawna Robb's single, and was driven home by Lesley Fay. Robyn Ridpath drew a walk in the fifth inning and Rizo moved her to second base on a single up the middle but the Lady Penguins again failed to bring home a runner in scoring position. The 'Lopes plated two in the top of the sixth and Robb and Howard singled in the sixth but they were stranded to end game one.

After spotting the 'Lopes a 4-0 lead in the first two innings of game two, Dominican answered in the bottom of the third. Jessi Saaty helped her cause by leading off with a single. Howard reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ridpath singled down the right field line to drive her home. Grand Canyon cancelled out that run with a run in the top of the fourth and added two more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Teddy Barry led Grand Canyon on Saturday, going 5-for-8 at the plate with 4 RBI, 5 runs scored, and three stolen bases. Kelli Bridges was 5-for-7, drove in four, scored a run, and stole two bases. Tracy Lubken went 4-for-7 with 3 RBI and one run scored.

Howard was 4-for-7 on the day with a run scored. McKnight went 2-for-4 with a walk.
