SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's softball team lost a pair of Pacific West Conference games to Academy of Art University on Saturday, falling 8-0 in five innings and 6-5 in eight innings in game two.

The Lady Penguins (2-22/2-18) labored through game one, giving up six earned runs on 12 hits while committing two errors. The Urban Knights (24-20-1/13-11) posted a crooked inning in the very first inning, plating four runs on three hits. AAU added a run in the second and scored three times in the fourth inning while limiting Dominican to just three hits in the game.

In game two the Urban Knights against struck first, scoring twice in the second inning and twice more in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.  The Lady Penguins responded with a four-run fourth inning. Molly Howard started the frame off with a single. Robyn Ridpath and Kellie Hislop reached on consecutive errors, allowing Howard to come home. Shawna Robb singled to load the bases and Jill Rizo was hit by a pitch to bring home Ridpath. With a full count, Alisha McKnight connected for an RBI double to drive home Robb and Hislop. The Urban Knights scratched out a run in the bottom of the sixth when Shampayne Clay walked with the bases loaded. In the seventh, McKnight walked on four straight pitches but was out on a fielder's choice hit by Leighia Fleming. The right fielder stole second base to get herself into scoring position and Howard's single got her to third base. Cortnie Chenoweth's strikeout should have ended the inning but the ball got away from AAU's catcher and Chenoweth legged it out to first and Fleming came home to tie the ballgame at 5-5. Ashley Lokey stunned Dominican in the bottom of the eighth though when she sent a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall for the AAU walkoff win.

The Lady Penguins will look to split the series with AAU on Sunday, April 18 when they travel back to San Francisco for another PacWest doubleheader against the Urban Knights. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
