SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of Cailfornia women's softball team was held scoreless by No. 6 ranked Hawai'i Pacific University on Tuesday in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at McInnis Park by the scores of 13-0 and 8-0.
HPU (22-1/13-1) set the tone early in the first game, taking advantage of a pair of Dominican (1-16/1-12) errors and scoring five runs on just two hits. The Lady Penguins committed two more errors in the second that led to two more Sea Warrior runs. Dominican threatened in the bottom half of the inning but left the bases loaded. HPU put the game out of reach with five more runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth.
In the nightcap, HPU opened the first inning with a run.
Analisa Lujan and
Jill Rizo had back-to-back hits but both were left stranded. The Sea Warriors scored another run in the third inning but
Jessi Saaty got out of a jam to leave two HPU runners on base. Saaty followed that with a 1-2-3 fourth inning but HPU exploded for a five-run fifth inning to win both games in just five innings.
The Dominican women face HPU again tomorrow in another PacWest doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at McInnis Park in San Rafael.
