PHOENIX, AZ — Dominican University of California women's basketball guard
Alisha Flaaten has been named to the Pacific West Conference Second Team, it was announced Wednesday.
The Hayward, Calif. native led the PacWest in three pointers made, averaging 2.7 per game, and finished third in scoring with 15 points per game. She was third in free throw percentage (55-of-63, .873), seventh in three point field goal percentage (71-of-196, .362), and 13th in assists (2.7/game) and steals (1.9/game).
Flaaten broke
Jennifer Roger Hernandez's Dominican scoring record for women's basketball of 1,487 points in the first half against Academy of Art University on February 18. She now holds the Dominican women's basketball record with 1,565 career points. Flaaten is also the second leading scorer all-time at Moreau Catholic High School, where she scored 1,863 points en route to the CIF Northern California semifinals her first three years.
Flaaten also picked up two first-place votes and finished third in PacWest Newcomer of the Year balloting with nine points. She was named to the PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll eight times over the course of the season.
Grand Canyon University's Samantha Murray was named player of the year. Laura Zasly from Notre Dame de Namur University earned newcomer of the year honors and Dixie State College's Johnna Brown was pegged for freshman of the year. Jeff Harada was named coach of the year after leading Hawai'i Pacific University to the PacWest title.
The 2009-10 Dominican women went 7-20 overall and finished in eighth place out of nine teams with a 4-12 conference mark in the University's first full season as a member of the PacWest.
