HONOLULU, HI — The Dominican University of California women's softball stranded 12 runners and it cost them as the Lady Penguins fell to Chaminade University on Friday afternoon by the scores of 8-0 and 5-2 in Pacific West Conference play.

Trailing 6-0 by the third inning in game one, the Lady Penguins (1-11/1-9) had a chance to chip away at the lead. Shawna Robb singled to center field and Alisha McKnight followed with a single to left field. Analisa Lujan reached on fielder's choice when Robb tried to get home but was thrown out from shortstop. Molly Howard reached base on a fielder's choice and all runners advanced safely. Chaminade shut the door on the inning though, getting the next two Dominican batters to strike out looking and ground out, leaving the bases loaded. Chaminade (11-9/8-4) added a pair of runs in the fifth inning to invoke the mercy rule.

In game two, Chaminade took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Dominican, batting as the home team this doubleheader, plated a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Lesley Fay RBI that scored Lujan. Chaminade added two more runs in the third inning to push the lead to three. Leighia Fleming came home after a pair of Chaminade errors in the fourth inning but the Lady Penguins stranded five runners after that, including a bases loaded opportunity in the sixth inning.

Robyn Ridpath continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-5 on the day. Lujan finished her day going 2-for-6 with a run scored.

With the doubleheader, Dominican completes their eight-game road trip to Hawai'i and returns to California, where they will face Notre Dame de Namur University on Tuesday, March 16. The doubleheader was originally scheduled in February but was postponed to inclement weather. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. in Belmont, Calif.
