BOX SCORE 2
HONOLULU, HI —
Robyn Ridpath hit a monster home run to left-center in the nightcap of a pair of Pacific West Conference games against Chaminade University on Thursday but the Dominican University of California women's softball team dropped both games by scores of 7-0 and 10-2.
The Lady Penguins (1-9/1-7) were done in by a crooked fifth inning in game one. Dominican had three baserunners in the first inning on a
Jessi Saaty walk,
Jill Rizo fielder's choice, and a
Lesley Fay single to left field but Dominican left runners in scoring position. Chaminade (9-9/6-4) threatened in the bottom half of the inning but Fay settled down after issuing a walk and hitting a batter, getting the strikeout to end the inning.
Dominican left runners in scoring position in the second, fourth, and fifth innings and in the bottom of the fifth the Silver Swords managed what the Lady Penguins couldn't, sending seven runners across home plate on six hits and an error.
In game two, down 8-1 in the fifth inning, Ridpath smoked a pitch over the left-center fence for her second home run of the season. However that's all the scoring Dominican would produce. The Lady Penguins left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning and the Silver Swords tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to invoke the mercy rule.
The Lady Penguins will face Chaminade again in Honolulu on Friday, March 12. First pitch of the PacWest doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m. Hawaiian/2:00 p.m. Pacific.
