SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team suffered its most lopsided loss of the season on Saturday night, a 92-43 defeat by Notre Dame de Namur University in Pacific West Conference.
NDNU (13-11/9-4) flew out to an 11-0 start before
Shawna Bryant put Dominican (5-18/2-10) on the board five minutes in. The Argonauts built the lead to 31 by halftime thanks to 11 points off Lady Penguin turnovers and 15 second chance points. The Lady Penguins scored more points in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome NDNU's sizzling .545 shooting night.
Tammy Brawner was the lone Dominican player to reach double digits, finishing her night with 12 points.
Kiley Berlinksi added six points in the loss and grabbed four rebounds.
Six Argonauts reached double digits. Kim Hom led all players with 19 points. Katie Zasly scored 14 points and her twin sister, Laura, recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jane Ryabulkhina added 11 points and Natellie Saia rounded out the top scorers with 10 points.
The Argonauts shot just one more field goal attempt than Dominican but took 35 free throw attempts to Dominican's 19.
The Lady Penguins hit the road to Utah and Arizona now to face Dixie State College and Grand Canyon University. Dominican visits Dixie State on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 5:30/4:30 p.m. Pacific. The game at Grand Canyon will be played on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a rare 1:00/12:00 p.m. Pacific tipoff.
