SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - On a night appearing to be a runaway by the visiting University of Hawai'i - Hilo Vulcans, the Dominican University of California women's volleyball team made a close game in the third set, only to come up short. The Lady Penguins lost to the Vulcans in three sets, 11-25, 12-25, and 20-25.
While UHH (8-3/3-1) had plenty to cheer about, including a duo creating many kills in Hillary Hurley (14 kills, 2 digs) and Leilani Ramsey (13 kills, 12 digs), the Lady Penguins (2-14/0-5) had some highlights of their own.
Freshman outside hitter
Hannah Stocking finished the night leading Dominican with nine kills. Fellow freshmen
Ria Falealili, coming off a PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll week, and
Kelsey Lardner each had six digs apiece.
Sophomore and two-sport student-athlete
Melissa Wise made her season debut after missing Dominican's first 15 matches with a wrist injury. She finished with three digs and a block assist.
The Lady Penguins face the Vulcans once again on Saturday evening at the Conlan Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. This coming Monday, Dominican faces BYU-Hawaii, with an early opening serve now scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
