Dominican Women Start Strong but Falter Late at Chaminade

Hannah Stocking led all players with 18 digs in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Chaminade.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i — Coming off a 3-2 non-conference victory against UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, the Dominican University of California women's volleyball team was looking to make it two in a row on Tuesday night. Things looked headed in the right direction early on for Dominican but host Chaminade wouldn't allow that to happen, taking the Pacific West Conference match in four sets, 21-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-18.

Freshman outside hitter Hannah Stocking put Dominican (3-20/0-11) up a set early with seven of her team-high 16 kills. Fellow freshmen outside hitter Ria Falealili and Jessica Jones notched 15 kills and nine kills, respectively, in the loss. Stocking also led the Lady Penguins with 18 digs, followed by 10 from freshman libero Ashley Pittman. Senior setter Brooke Swingle dished out 38 of the Lady Penguins' 50 assists on the night.

Four Silver Swords (5-12/2-8) reached double digits in kills. Poerava Gantt tallied 17 kills for Chaminade.
Crystal Powell added 16 kills and a team-high 14 digs.

Dominican heads to Hawai'i Pacific University for the second match of a four-match road trip through Hawai'i on Wednesday. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m./10:00 p.m. Pacific.
