BOX SCORE
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Freshman
Ria Falealili tallied a career-high 19 kills but the Dominican University of California women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 16-25) to Grand Canyon University, who won its tenth straight home contest, on Friday night in Pacific West Conference.
The Lady Penguins (2-12/0-3) took the second set thanks in part to strong serving from Falealili that put Dominican ahead early 4-0. Dominican maintained a small lead and when an attack error opened the door for GCU to get back into at 15-14 but setter
Brooke Swingle found Falealili right there to keep Dominican in front. The 'Lopes rallied late with a pair of kills but the Lady Penguins secured the 25-22 set two victory thanks to a GCU service error.
Ashley Pittman dug out 22 balls on the night and four others had at least 10 digs apiece.
Hannah Stocking and
Cayla Morphew added 10 kills and 9 kills, respectively. Swingle dished out 40 assists.
Grand Canyon (6-10/2-3) was led by Erica Ehlo's 13 kills.
The teams meet again at 6:00 p.m. MST on Saturday, October 2 at Antelope Gymnasium.
