SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team pulled out a 3-2 victory over visiting Dixie State College on Saturday afternoon. The throngs of fans that poured down from the University's first-ever Spirit Day saw history in the making as three Dominican players found the back of the net to lift the Penguins to their first-ever Pacific West Conference victory.

Evan Cordova scored first for Dominican (5-3-1/1-0-0) in the eleventh minute off of a free kick.  Four minutes later, Shane Huiberts found Rafael Garcia for Garcia's second goal of the season to put the Penguins up 2-0.

In the ninteenth minute, the Red Storm (2-3-1/0-1-1) got on the board with a goal on a 1v1 against Dominican keeper Matthew Carlson.  Dixie State took advantage of another 1v1 opportunity in the 36 minute and tied the game at 2-2 going into halftime.

Spencer Eckert pushed the ball upfield in the 61 minute and cut wide to find a streaking Pedro Guevara rushing downfield. A perfectly placed ball connected for the game winner.

"It was nice to get that first [conference] win under our belt," said Dominican head coach Jon Delano. "We  responded well after giving up the 2-0 lead and toughed it out."

The Penguins host Grand Canyon University in more PacWest action on Sept. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., following the 2:00 p.m. women's match between the two schools.
