ATHERTON, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team took care of business on Tuesday night, traveling to former arch rival NAIA D-II Menlo College and collecting its first sweep of the season. With the win, Dominican improves to 3-8 while Menlo drops to 3-5.
Dominican dominated the match, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in game one thanks to the strong service of
Tianna Tuatagaloa. Game one remained close but Dominican's quick start helped them to the 25-20 win.
The Lady Penguins started out game two trailing 10-9 before going on a five point run to take the lead, going on a 7-1 lead to win 25-21.
Dominican gave the Lady Oaks another lead in game three, trailing by five points most until one of Tuatagaloa's three service aces knotted the game at 20. An 11-1 point run finished off game four and Pacific West Conferece Top 10 Honor Roll honoree
Gabby Pecora hit one of her team-leading 12 kills down the sideline for to end the match.
Tuatagaloa and
Ashlee Sand each added eight kills apiece in the victory. Setter
Brooke Swingle added four kills and 27 assists to help pace the offense. Libero
LaShelle Rullan led all players with 17 digs.
Katie Pendley led the Lady Oaks with eight kills.
Dominican will host the University's first-ever PacWest conference match on Thursday, Sept. 17. The Lady Penguins host Notre Dame de Namur University at 7:00 p.m.
