Lady Penguins drop final match of Seawolf Spike

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team fell to 1-3 on the young season on Saturday, as they dropped their nightcap with CSU Stanislaus 24-26, 25-17, 24-26, 24-26.

It was a tight match throughout, with CSUS barely edging Dominican in game one. The Lady Penguins fell behind 2-0 but took a 24-21 lead. A Cayla Morphew attack error gave the ball back to CSUS and four straight Lady Warrior points gave Stanislaus game one.

Dominican made sure to hold the lead in game two, as the Lady Penguins jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led wire-to-wire.

Dominican jumped to a 10-5 lead in game three but the Lady Warriors responded after calling a timeout, closing the gap 12-9 before a six-point run gave CSUS the lead until the game tied at 19-19. The game remained tight up to 24-24 until CSUS finished the game with two straight points.

The Lady Penguins again jumped out to the early lead in game four, pulling ahead 3-0 and led 21-17 at one point. A 9-2 run by the Lady Warriors finished off Dominican 26-24.

Gabby Pecora led Dominican with 16 kills and five service aces.

Lianne Vicchio also had 16 kills for the Lady Warriors.
