Dominican Women come up short in day 2 of Seawolf Spike

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team pushed Sonoma State University to five games on the Seawolves' home court but came up short, with scores of 9-25, 25-16, 27-25, 8-25, and 10-15.

Dominican (1-2) scored the first point of the day but quickly fell behind to Sonoma State (3-0) in game one. SSU's Marianne Fox finished off game one with five straight serves that resulted in Seawolf points.

The Lady Penguins surged ahead in game two, jumping out to a 16-10 before closing out game two 25-16 to even the match at one game apiece.

Dominican kept up the strong play in game three, battling from five points down to take game three 27-25.

The Lady Penguins reverted to the poor play they displayed in game four, dropping that set 25-8.

In game five, Dominican took an early 3-1 lead before SSU went on a five-point run to take a 10-6 lead. The Seawolves scored the final three points to take game five 15-10 and the match.

Gabby Pecora and Tianna Tuatagaloa both led the Lady Penguins with 14 kills apiece. Cayla Morphew added nine kills in the loss.

SSU was led by Keala Peterson's 18 kills.
