Lady Penguins come up short against Red Storm

BOX SCORE

ST. GEORGE, UT — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team fared better in its rematch against Dixie State College on Saturday but it still wasn't enough as the Lady Penguins fell in three straight, 18-25, 22-25, 22-25.

Dominican (6-22/1-13) took an early 7-2 set one lead before the Red Storm (16-7/10-4) rallied back to even the score at 12-12.  Dixie State doubled up the Lady Penguins, going on a 12-6 run to take set one.

Set two remained close until point 21. A Dominican service error, followed by three Storm kills in the last four plays gave way to the 25-22 win for Dixie State.

Dominican took another early 2-0 lead in set three but Dixie State used a 10-2 streak to go up 10-4 and pull away for good, taking the final set 25-22.

Gabby Pecora and Tianna Tuatagaloa carried much of the workload for Dominican, with eight kills apiece and 10 and 11 digs, respectively. Tuatagaloa also recorded two of the Lady Penguins' six service aces.

LaShelle Rullan also dug out 11 balls in the loss.

Alex Shearer led the Red Storm with nine kills.
