Dixie State sweeps Lady Penguins in first of two matches

SAINT GEORGE, UT — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team hit a wall against a well-rested Dixie State College team, losing in three straight sets, 16-25, 15-25, 11-25.

The Red Storm (15-7/9-4), playing in its first match in 13 days, held an advantage over Dominican (6-21/1-12) in every statistical category.  Dominican hit just .010 for the game while second-place Dixie State hit .323.  The Red Storm also recorded six blocks to just two by the Lady Penguins.

Dominican's starters were limited to just 19 kills, compared to the Red Storm's Katie Luna, who alone put down a match high 13 kills to lead all players.

Gabby Pecora led Dominican with just five kills on 28 attempts. Brooke Swingle made 15 assists and had 11 digs. Cayla Morphew had 10 digs in the loss.

The Dominican women face off again with the Red Storm tomorrow at the Old Gym on the Dixie State campus. First serve is scheduled for 2:00/1:00 p.m. Pacific.
