BOX SCORE
ST. GEORGE, UT — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team took its time to score on Tuesday but it was worth the wait as the Penguins notched a 1-0 overtime victory at Dixie State College in Pacific West Conference play.
Neither team scored in regulation and it seemed as though the two teams were on their way to a second overtime period. But
Ryan Vella erased any thought of that when his 50-yard cross found the feet of
Alec Ziegler, who placed the game-winner in at 99:51.
The two teams combined for 22 shots but Dominican (8-11-1/5-8-1) only placed a pair on goal and DSC (5-10-1/3-9-0) placed three.
Matthew Carlson made three saves over the 99 minute span to notch the victory and record his fourth shutout of the season.
The Penguins finish the season with an 8-11-1 overall record and finish the season with a 5-8-1 record in the program's inaugural season as a member of the PacWest.
