Lady Penguins can't keep pace with BYU-Hawaii

LAIE, HI — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team was swept away by Brigham Young University - Hawaii on Tuesday night. The Lady Penguins (4-16/0-7), who kicked off their tour of the four PacWest schools in Hawai'i, fell in three straight to the Seasiders (9-10/5-4) 18-25, 14-25, 17-25.

Game one was close throughout. Late in the first set, the Lady Penguins cut the lead to 21-18 on Brooke Swingle's service ace. Four straight Seasiders points closed out the set to take the game 25-18 and the game one lead.

A pair of kills by Tianna Tuatagaloa and a kill by Cayla Morphew brought the Lady Penguins within five points midway through game two but the Seasiders led wire-to-wire in the second set, riding a .452 hitting clip to win 25-14.

Dominican kept fighting in set three, remaining tied until 4-4. The Seasiders used a 4-1 run to pull away and soon led 21-14 before closing out set three 25-17.

Gabby Pecora again paced the Dominican offense, ending her night with 11 kills on 35 attempts. Lorel Grande and  Tuatagaloa each ended their nights with six kills apiece. Morphew had a pair of kills and one service ace in her first match back since Sept. 26.

Losaline Faka'osi led the Seasiders with a dozen kills.

The Lady Penguins continue their tour of the Hawaiian Islands on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when they travel to Honolulu to face Chaminade University. Match time is set for 7:00/10:00 Pacific.
