Diaz and Ikeora earn PacWest awards

IRVINE, Calif. – Dominican women's basketball player Natalie Diaz was named co-PacWest Player of the Year for the 2017-2018 season Wednesday as voted on by conference coaches, sharing the award with Point Loma's Roya Rustamzada. Sandra Ikeora was named to the All-PacWest second team.
Diaz was named the PacWest Player of the Week three times this season while leading the conference in scoring at 23.9 points per game. She eclipsed the 30-point mark six times, including a career-high 34 at Academy of Art on Jan. 10. Diaz finished the year with 14 double-doubles, including a 24-point, 18-rebound outing at Fresno Pacific on Dec. 9. She also tallied double-digit scoring in all but one of her 28 games while shooting 49.2 percent from the field.

After being named the preseason PacWest Player of the Year, Ikeora averaged 20.4 points and 14.1 rebounds per game, tallying 10 double-doubles. She finished with 34 points and 19 rebounds in a win over Central Washington on Dec. 14. Despite missing 10 games due to injury, she still managed to lead the Penguins in total rebounds, grabbing 253 on the year.
