IRVINE, Calif. — Dominican University of California women's volleyball players
Amanda Lee and
Aimee Steinwand have been named to the seven-player 2016 Preseason All-PacWest Team for 2016. Additionally, Lee was named PacWest Preseason Libero of the Year.
Lee, the 2015 PacWest Libero of the Year and an All-PacWest First Team member as a junior, led the conference in digs per set (5.86) and was second in total digs (580). The Daly City, California native was named to the D2CCA All-West Region Second Team and her dig average ranked 18th in the nation. Lee had five matches with at least 30 digs, including a program record 39 in a five-set win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Steinwand was an All-PacWest Second Team selection in 2015 as a sophomore. The Colorado Springs, Colorado native played in 88 sets and started 23 matches. She set Dominican's single-season mark in the DII era with 4.06 kills per set and 4.81 points per set. She recorded a career-high 24 kills in a 3-2 loss to No. 22 Sonoma State on Sept. 11 and her 69 attacks in a 3-2 loss to Stanislaus State are tied for most by a Dominican player in the DII era.
Dominican was picked 12th in the 14-team league. For the second-consecutive season, California Baptist was selected as the preseason favorite to win the PacWest volleyball championship. Last year's champion, Dixie State, was picked second.
The Penguins begin the season on Sept. 2 at Cal State East Bay in the Route 92 Showdown. Dominican faces Chico State at 11 a.m. and Barry University at 4:30 p.m.
