IRVINE, Calif. — Dominican University of California women's golfers
Sophia Schiavone and
Madeleine Bong have been named to the 2016 All-PacWest Women's Golf team. The team was announced on Tuesday, following a vote by the league's coaches.
Schiavone was named to the All-PacWest Second Team. The freshman posted a 79.07 scoring avergae, GolfStat 182 national ranking and 71 regional ranking. In 15 rounds, she posted six rounds in the 70s, including two pars. She fired a one-under 71, which was the best round of the tournament, and finished in first place at the HNU Fall Shootout. The Gresham, Oregon native used four birdies and 25 pars to place 15th at 245 strokes (81-82-82, +29) in the PacWest Championships.
Bong repeats as an All-PacWest Third Team member. The sophomore posted a 79.60 scoring average, GolfStat 239 national ranking and 97 regional ranking. She was named PacWest Golfer of the Week for the week of April 6-13 thanks to her third-place finish at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational. In 15 rounds, she posted a half-dozen round in the 70s, icnluding a par-72 at the HNU Fall Shootout. She finished in 14th place at 244 strokes (82-81-81, +28) at the PacWest Championships.
Schiavone and Bong helped lead the Penguins to a fourth-place finish at the PacWest Championships, the program's highest-ever finish in four years of qualifying for the event.
