IRVINE, Calif. — Dominican University of California men's golfers
Ty Macias and
Drew Nelson have been named to the 2016 All-PacWest Men's Golf Team. The team was announced on Tuesday, following a vote by the league's coaches.
Macias posted a 73.57 scoring average, GolfStat 69 national ranking and 16 regional ranking. The Phoenix native tied for second place in the field of 50 at the PacWest Championships with a one-under 215 (72-70-73). His lowest round of the season, a 67, was also tied for the tournament-low at the WNMU Fall Invitational, where he finished fourth. He tied for second at the Interwest Wildcat Classic and finished third at the Mustang Intercollegiate, where he finished tied for third. Last season, Macias was named to the All-PacWest Second Team.
Nelson posted a 73.77 scoring average, GolfState 90 national ranking and 20 regional ranking. His four-over 220 (75-72-73) tied him for fifth at the PacWest Championships. The Salinas, California native shot no higher than a 78 all season and had four Top 10 finishes. He fired his lowest round of the season, a 68, in the first round of the Mustang Intercollegiate. This is Nelson's third time in as many years being named to the All-PacWest Team.
The pair led the Penguins to their second consecutive NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships regional appearance. For Nelson, it his third regional appearance, having competed as an individual his freshman season.
