IRVINE, Calif. – For his outstanding efforts in the field of athletic communications, Dominican University of California Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletic Communications
Brandon Davis was honored by his peers with the 2014-15 PacWest Sports Information Director of the Year.
Davis, the first two-time PacWest SID of the Year recipient since the award was created in 2010, serves as the media relations contact for the University's 11 athletics teams. In addition to serving on the NCAA Division II West Region Advisory Committee for softball, Davis is the Daktronics All-America Women's Soccer West Region Coordinator. He was also responsible for the redesign and execution of the PacWest logo, which was launched July 1 and will be implemented conference-wide in the 2015-16 school year.
Davis was promoted to his current position in August 2014, and he helped design and oversee the construction of Penguin Field, which gave the Dominican softball program its first on-campus home facility. He also helped update the image of Dominican's mascot, Chilly the Penguin, which launched in January 2015. During the past year, he produced a new weekly column in Marinscope Community Newspapers, and he provided assistance to the 2015 West Region softball tournament hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay.
An active member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Davis has presented at the organization's annual conference three times: on digital media in 2012, on statistics in 2013, and game day in 2015.
"
Brandon Davis brings as special passion for Dominican Athletics as a proud alumni," said Dominican Acting Director of Athletics
Amy Henkelman. "Brandon has enhanced the face of Dominican Athletics internally and externally. He is very good at what he does and Dominican is very fortunate to have such a valuable assistant AD. I am extremely proud and happy for him."
Upon graduating from Dominican with a BA in Digital Art, Davis assumed the role of SID and marketing assistant. He served as an assistant men's basketball coach for three seasons from to 2006-2009 before stepping away from coaching to work on the department's successful transition from the NAIA to full NCAA Division II membership, which the University earned in 2012. He also served as the San Rafael Pacifics team photographer during the team's inaugural season in 2012 and as the club's director of public and media relations during the 2013 campaign.
